Místico Park dates back to the early 20th century, with the couple Adrián Castillo and Landelina Rodríguez Sánchez, both born and raised in La Fortuna.

They inherited the land from their parents. During that time, the remote location and difficulty of access contributed to the neglect of this holy land of great natural wealth. However, the Castillo Rodriguez family recognized its natural treasures and worked to protect them.

In the 21st century, they created “Los Puentes Colgantes del Arenal,” or Arenal Hanging Bridges. Today, under the Mistico Park brand, the reserve provides visitors with a direct link to nature and a biodiversity-rich ecosystem through its iconic hanging bridges.

Location and accessibility

Mistico Park is just 2 kilometers east of the Arenal Lake dam in La Fortuna. There’s a big parking area where you can leave your car at the entrance.

Once you’re inside, you’ll find three trails. To ensure easy accessibility, they were designed with non-slip concrete pathways, no steps, and safety rails.

Main trail

The main trail spans 2 miles, with a tour duration of 1.5 hours without a guide or 2.5 hours with one. Along this route, you’ll encounter 16 bridges, a tunnel, and a breathtaking waterfall. The trail is moderately challenging.

Accessible trail

Covering a mile, the accessible trail is made of non-slip concrete. You’ll explore six fixed bridges, with the option of two hanging bridges. This trail has a low difficulty level, and you can choose to navigate it with an electric scooter, which is available for rent.

Bird observation trail

As the longest trail at 2 miles, the Bird Observation Trail takes approximately 1.5 hours without a guide or 2.5 hours with one. Venture across 16 incredible hanging bridges, with a moderate level of effort required.

Bosque Eterno de los Niños

The Children’s Eternal Rainforest is Costa Rica’s largest private reserve and a major destination for bird watching, ecotourism, and hiking. It was founded thanks to ongoing donations from children from 44 countries. It is managed by a nonprofit conservation organization, the Monteverde Conservation League.

The reserve is little known and rarely visited, yet wild animals are more likely to be seen here than in other reserves nearby. With binoculars and patience, you can see booby birds, foxes, quetzals, monkeys, snakes, frogs, anteaters, jaguars, toucans, and sloths!

La Fortuna Center is approximately 43.1 kilometers away from Children’s Eternal Rainforest. The drive time is approximately 1 hour and 5 minutes.

Pure Trek Canyoning

La Fortuna offers some of the most enjoyable places to experience outdoor adventures, including canyoning, waterfall rappelling, and rock climbing. Among the best places to enjoy these activities is Pure Trek’s Treehouse Base Camp, located just outside La Fortuna and surrounded by lush tropical vegetation.
