You have arrived and are eager to start exploring. Meet your driver as you exit the airport. He will be waiting with a personalized name sign for an easy connection. You will be given a welcome package with your itinerary, a country map, and any other tourist information that may be helpful for your trip. Relax as a driver whisks you away to your San Jose Hotel.

Tortuguero – The “Amazon” of Costa Rica
Early morning departure from the hotel. Your drive will take you alongside the extraordinary Braulio Carrillo National Park and through the Caribbean coast’s banana plantations before your boat ride into “The Amazon of Costa Rica” — Tortuguero in the northern Caribbean of Costa Rica. Along the route, your guide will speak about the cultivation and production processes of bananas, one of the world’s most popular fruit. Continue on your journey via boat to the remote Tortuguero canals and your eco-lodge located on the waterway canals. After you arrive at the lodge and check-in, you will enjoy lunch. This afternoon you will visit the quaint village of Tortuguero, a picturesque community accessible only by boat. Your guide will give you time to explore the green sea turtle museum and the beautiful Atlantic beach. Enjoy some time in the hammock or by the pool before enjoying a delicious dinner. While sleeping tonight be lulled to sleep by the sounds and rhythm of the jungle.

Breakfast at the lodge. Today, you will explore the canals of Tortuguero in search of wildlife, birds, and reptiles with your experienced naturalist guide. The small boats make it easy to get close to the many species of birds, monkeys, sloths, crocodiles, manatees, and fish native to Tortuguero National Park. This afternoon you will be free to hike, explore, rent a kayak or get out the binoculars for some great wildlife viewing on the property. Relax and take a refreshing shower before dinner at the lodge.

After breakfast you will leave Tortuguero’s jungle waterways and head inland for an amazing tropical rainforest experience with majestic Arenal Volcano as your backdrop. As we head out by boat your guide will help spot any wildlife that may be found on the banks of the canals. You will meet your private driver after enjoying lunch from your departure from Tortuguero who will continue with you to the Arenal Volcano.
In the evening enjoy soaking and relaxing in the beautiful gardens and volcanically heated thermal pools at your hotel.

You have a free day to explore more of the beautiful nature, wildlife, and adventure that the Arenal Volcano has to offer. Our local experts recommend for those with an adventurous streak to grab a paddle and head out on a a white water rafting trip on the clas 2/3 Balsa River or the Class ¾ Sarapiqui River or take a plunge down a tropical rainforest canyon on a waterfall rappelling tour. The area has ATV Adventures, Canopy ZIP Lines, caving, lake kayaking and more. For those looking for a more nature focused day out, take a hike in the Rio Celeste national park to see the blue hued waterfall or head out for an early morning birdwatching trip with a private guide.

This morning you will transfer from Arenal to Monteverde without missing a beat or wasting any of your precious vacation time. As you leave Arenal, your transportation to Arenal will be by car to board a boat that will take you across scenic Lake Arenal with the majestic Arenal volcano as your backdrop, so make sure your camera isn’t packed away! This relaxing boat lake crossing makes transfer easy and allows time to take in beauty of the lake and surrounding rainforest. Once you reach the other side a van will whisk you away to your Monteverde hotel. Relax and enjoy the fresh mountain air and serenity of the cloud forest. Monteverde is a quaint mountain town founded by Quakers, that is now famous throughout Costa Rica for its aromatic cheeses and creamy, delicious, all natural ice cream.
